About Medina
ARTIST
painting has been the language of my soul for as long as I can remember. Born in the culturally rich city of Matanzas, Cuba, in 1964, I was immersed in creativity from a young age. My artistic journey took shape at the prestigious “Wilfredo Lam” Professional Academy of Arts, where I graduated in 1986 with a deep respect for both classical technique and personal expression.
Over the years, my brush has led me through galleries, murals, ceramic work, and exhibitions, but the core of my practice has always been oil painting. It’s where I feel most free, most connected. Each canvas is a reflection of the world I see, the people I meet, and the stories I carry within me.
My work blends realism, impressionism, and expressionism — sometimes softly, sometimes boldly. I explore color with purpose, and I often return to themes like memory, movement, nature, and identity. Whether it’s a serene Cuban landscape or a portrait bursting with texture and life, I aim to create art that doesn’t just hang — it speaks.
Art, for me, is not just a visual experience. It’s a visceral one. I want people to feel something when they look at my work — peace, nostalgia, curiosity, or joy. That emotional connection is what transforms a painting into a piece of someone’s story.
Teaching is one of the greatest gifts art has given me. Over the years, I’ve developed specialized workshops for oil painting, designed for students of all levels — from those picking up a brush for the first time to seasoned painters looking to sharpen their voice. I teach with a mix of structure and spontaneity, focusing on technique, composition, and the individual needs of each student.
My classes are professional, personalized, and deeply human. I believe learning to paint isn’t just about technique — it’s about confidence, creativity, and connection. I offer in-person workshops and also collaborate with partners like Mr Black World to make art education more accessible and inspiring.
Art is the center of my world, but so is my family. I’m blessed to share life with my wife, who is also an artist, and we find joy in creating together. Our home is filled with canvas, music, conversation, and color — and that energy finds its way into everything I do.
